The God of the Holy Bible is truly awesome. In some ways He is beyond human grasp. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isa. 55:9.

Infinite is He! “Great is our Lord,… His understanding is infinite.” Psm. 147:5.

Let’s show the distinction between infinity, which is a number too big to count, and ordinary numbers. Countable numbers work in arithmetic. For example, a very large number like one trillion, when multiplied by the number three becoming three billion, in the same way as all counting numbers. Division works the same way.

Infinity by contrast is a number that can’t be counted! And so infinity can’t behave like counting numbers. Infinity is here represented by . Mathematicians have shown that half of is still too big to count, so /2 is still . In fact we can divide or multiply by any countable number and we still have . This is like His view of time: “…one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” II Pet. 3:8. He knows in detail an of intervals in any interval.

Addition and subtraction with show other oddities. Add to or subtract from any countable number, and we still have . This is surely similar to our creator-savior Jesus. He is unchanging (Mal. 3:6), and none can add to Him, nor can any diminish Him.

If we think of the true of love in God, and we divide it by 7 billion, the number of people on Earth; then the result is still , meaning His love is still for each person. So God’s love is not dimished when shared with us individually. Praise God for that.

To try to get a pale reflection of the Lord’s nature, first consider that the counting numbers, positive and negative plus zero total to an , called , Aleph zero by Georg Cantor, the master theorist of infinity. He showed that the next larger distinct kind of includes all the decimal numbers between the counting numbers, which he called , Aleph one. is also the number of points in any 2D area, since a line can be drawn completely filling any rectanlge, a line called Giuseppe Peano’s curve. Such lines can completely fill any 2D area, 3D solid, or any space with a limited number of higher dimensions. Since God is almighty (Gen. 17:1, Ezek. 10:5, Rev. 19:15) and all knowing; : “…God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” I John 3:20, He knows the location of every particle and wave in the of points of all space, at all times. A minor reflection of this is the fact that He calls all the stars by name (Psm. 147-4) all 100,000 billion, billion of them! The galaxy below has only about 100 billion stars.

Even more remarkably God is not limited to spatial dimensions. “…the heaven and heavens cannot contain Him.” II Chron. 2:6 & I Kings 8:27. He operates inside and outside of an of dimensions with infinite power, wisdom and perfect knowledge. Even in this we see only a miniscule part of His true nature. Jesus is truly a being of a totally different order — type.

Yet He who is beyond infinite, desires communion with us, and by His supernatural revelation, through His Holy Scriptures and by His Holy Spirit, He empowers communion, freely giving us the “ mind of Christ,” even though that mind moves through a limited human mind. Thank you Lord.

June 27, 2010

It is hard to believe that in just three more days one half of the year 2010 will have gone by. What’s even more striking is that we have to give account for use of the time! God calls this “redeeming the time.” It is now 2010 1/2, how are you doing so far with the time alloted you?

Y2K

It has been 10 1/2 (ten and a half) years since Y2K. Remember Y2K? The phrase stood for “year 2000” and it was intended to sound an ominous warning to one and all, the world over. All major computers were expected to go berserk, electric grids across the USA would very likely fail, creating nationwide blackouts. This would create the greatest havoc in world history. Y2K clubs were formed in major cities across America offering provision and mutual protection from the marauding gangs that were sure to be on the loose scavenging and looting.

Imagine the banks not being able to keep track of accounts, grocery stores unable to order fresh supplies, gasoline pumps not working, and that was just part of it! The list went on and on.

But as always, JESUS IS sufficient for the cause. We did not go into a state of panic, rather we experienced a new prosperity. The Church dropped into a bigger state of complacency than it had been in before. “All is well,” seemed to be the code of the day. But when when the Church becomes complacent the enemy is free to attack again.

911

Then, lo and behold, along came 911. The most dastardly planned act of terrorism ever perpetrated against America was committed by Muslim terrorists. For the first time since America’s full separation from Britain, an enemy had attacked American soil, destroying buildings, killing thousands and maiming scores of others. With insulting irony this dastardly deed was committed on September 11, or 911, the number we dial in case of emergency. The Church got out of its complacency again and began to pray.

It is 2010 1/2, are we getting complacent again?

Jesus exhorts us, “Occupy till I come.” (Luke 19:13)

Present day society has placed great emphasis, an over bearing emphasis on physical empowerment. Television commercials bombard us with products that will help “slim us down”, build up our muscles, and improve our physique and the like.

While I don’t take issue with improving our lifestyle and our health, we must not neglect the most important part of our triune being, our spirit. The Apostle Paul tells us “physical exercise profits little,” he doesn’t say it has not value. However, time and again Paul admonishes us to “keep our sight on things above and not below” and to focus on the “eternal, not the temporal”? Would God not equip us to fight the “good fight”? YES, HE DOES! And how!

Zechariah 4:6 exclaims it’s “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” The New Testament reveals to us how the Lord of Hosts empowers us with His Holy Spirit to partake of His nature. (2 Peter 1:4)

Today we know this “empowerment” as the “gifts of the Holy Spirit.” They are outlined for us in Corinthians 12:7-10. It is the proper use of these gifts that “empowers to us His divine nature” here on earth, now. These gifts empower us:

To know supernaturally: the gift of the word of knowledge, the gift of the word of wisdom, the gift of discerning of spirits.

To act supernaturally: the gift of faith, the gift of working of miracles, the gifts of healing.

To speak supernaturally: the gift of speaking in tongues, the gift of interpretation of tongues, the gift of prophesy.

Paul the Apostle came upon some disciples while in the city of Ephesus. These disciples were not known to Paul but he could discern by their conversation their commitment and determination to serve Christ. Paul must have discerned something else; a lack of spiritual power perhaps?

You might wonder what makes me say that, but his question is a certain giveaway, “Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?”

There is a certain characteristic consequent to the presence of the Holy Ghost: it is God’s Glorious Power. These disciples were obviously men of God, people committed to the Word as they understood it.

Their response was very telling, “We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.” See Acts 19:1-2. The implications here are enormous.

How did Paul so quickly recognize the absence of the Holy Ghost?

There are so many Christians that could just as well ask that question today and even give the same answer! Some preachers might well be included in this group.

In the Gospel of John, chapter 14, verses 16 & 17 and verse 26, we get a glimpse of Him.

Wait a minute! Is the Holy Ghost a “what”? or a “who”? How do we recognize His presence?

The Holy Spirit can well be called the Executive Agent of the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is so necessary for our daily living. Our Lord Jesus promised and sent this Comforter who is to “be in us.”

My prayer is this short bulletin will encourage you to learn more about “receiving the Holy Ghost” and His consequent empowerment. This is done in various ways, i.e., through His gifts, fruits and teachings.

The Bible relates many accounts on motherhood, from the righteous ones to naming those whose lives were less than virtuous.

Countless accounts have been written about Motherhood by poets, husbands and children.

Sermons throughout this country today are centered around Mother as well they should. This is the one day of the year set aside to honor “Mother”. Many of those sermons will be based on Proverbs 31, a scripture known as the “Proverbs 31 Woman.”

Many sermons will center on Mary, the mother of Jesus, certainly one of the great Mothers mentioned in the Bible. In so many ways she is an example of a virtuous woman, certainly a “righteous maiden” but I believe these accounts leave out someone who must have been a very special woman: Mary’s Mother.

Mary’s Mother must have been a “verrry” special woman to raise such a righteous maiden. Paul commended Timothy for his “unfeigned” faith, ascribing it to Timothy’s mother and, as Paul put it, that must have begun with his grandmother!

Surely Mary was a virtuous and righteous maiden, and I believe her mother had much to do with that. We hear nothing of Mary being condemned by her mother for “being with child.” I strongly believe this is owed to the fact her mother knew the daughter she had raised, and fully believed Mary’s report. Happy Mother’s Day!

Ciao! (hi!)

“When in Rome” goes the saying heard worldwide, “do as the Romans.” Well, Sister Trudie and I can’t say we did as the Romans, but we have learned a great deal about Rome.

As I sit musing over the events of the last few days, I rejoice greatly. Trudie and I put a lot of activities in just a few days. We spent several days in Rome, visiting many of the historical sites we read about such as the “Coloseo” (better known as the “Trevi Fontana,” and many more historical sites.

We however, did not “do as the Romans” in every respect. We found most Romans, and Italians in general, to be Catholics, but having what I would call a “low spiritual quotient.” There is a historical respect for the church in general, but that is coupled with an understanding of its many weakness.

They overlook these “weaknesses” by concentrating on their many “saints” and their accomplishments. Also, they are quick to point out the many wonderful physical accomplishments of the church; including the great architecture and art in all its various forms, from lustful to the historical. You can find these “monuments” in one form or another all over the city.

As in any large city in the world, Rome is very international. By that I mean there are people living there from all over the world. Riding the Metro you will hear Spanish, German, English, Indian, Chinese, and a host of other languages. Many are tourists, but not all. There are people from all over the world living there. In our hotel, there were workers from Bangladesh, India, Colombia and Spain. And they were all multilingual!

There is another characteristic of Romans and Italians in general that we did not wish to emulate: their dress, which is by and large, very immodest. I attribute that to the history of the Roman Empire. That was a time of great moral decay, a time when man ruled supreme, making their own gods or declaring themselves to be gods.

In fact, the Romans were so involved in their sensual living they hardly noticed a new religion springing up their own “backyard.” That religion was Christianity. Christianity is growing throughout Italy, Rome included. Praise the Lord for that. Arrivederci! (good-bye!)

Sunnybrook Christian Academy provides each child with an understanding of self in relation to God and His Word. Our goal is to meet the academic, spiritual, physical, and social needs of each student as he/she lives a life that will please and glorify God. Sunnybrook will achieve this end by declaring the following objectives as our educational goals:

To teach the Word of God, as the ultimate authority to guide our students in all areas of living.

To nurture a deep and abiding faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the Bible as His Word.

To provide a comprehensive program of Bible instruction, emphasizing application and the discernment of truth.

To encourage good citizenship based on a genuine love and respect for our country and the ideals on which it was founded.

To cultivate a healthy self-esteem and respect for the rights and needs of others while maintaining a positive attitude.

To instill the desire to build strong family units.

To promote academic excellence in reading, language, mathematics, social studies, science, health and spiritual growth.

To provide an appreciation for the aesthetics through the Arts.

To provide instruction and training in how to study, how to discover, how to locate information and how to solve problems using available resources and technology.

To develop habits of self-discipline, and assume responsibility for their own actions.

To promote respect for cultural diversity as each student maintains an appreciation for his/her unique heritage.

To encourage the proper care and development of the body.

With God’s help, these educational goals will be achieved through prayer, the example of daily Christian living by the staff, the implementation of a Christ-centered curriculum, and systematic parental involvement in the educational process. We will strive in every way possible to relate Biblical principles relevant to the students’ lives now, as well as in the future.

Mission Statement

Dependent on the Holy Spirit, we will instill the teachings of Jesus Christ as the foundation of all spiritual growth to transform lives as we pursue academic excellence.
